This weekend, we’ll follow Fisico’s and Tonio Liuzzi’s evolution. Is it the good coming out?

It was friday…

Tonio Liuzzi needs a little time to take his marks. But, he progressed in the classification on the afternoon. Giancarlo Fisichella realized a good first session but his training counted a few laps. It’s strange!

Liuzzi said running in practice was much better than straight-line testing and focused on relatively long runs as he played himself back in getting used to the tyres and brakes. He said there was at least another half second to come, as he had traffic on his final, best lap, which he aborted after improving in both the first and second sectors in the afternoon.

Fisichella said his first day as a Ferrari driver was tough and that his major difficulties were in adapting to the different control positions and gaining confidence deploying KERS. He flat-spotted the front left tyre at Ascari in the morning and had to run the soft tyres sooner than planned, hence his speed.

It was saturday…

Tonio Liuzzi shines for his national GP, we cannot say the same thing about Fisico. He did an off-track on the morning and he is classified 14th on the starting grid. Ouch !

“Two weeks ago I didn't expect to be on the grid so this is a fantastic result - better than we expected. The team made a great effort and gave me a lot of support to reach this target. They never gave up and we had a great Friday and Saturday. The race will be difficult physically and mentally but I like the fight, the team are fighters and we will give the maximum in tomorrow's race. I'm definitely looking forward to racing in front of my home crowd.” Tonio Liuzzi

“Overall, I am reasonably happy, even if I’m aware that a fourteenth place on the grid is not up to the Ferrari standard. Yesterday, I drove the F60 for the first time and this morning, because of a mistake by me, I lost valuable time to prepare for qualifying, as I crashed into the barriers. I want to thank all the mechanics who did a fantastic job of rebuilding the car for qualifying. I was a bit tense before the session, as I knew I didn’t yet have enough confidence in the car. Unfortunately, in Q2, I never managed to put together a perfect lap and so I couldn’t make it through to Q3. It’s a shame, as the potential was there, but tomorrow there is still time to have a good race nevertheless. Maybe, I can try and immediately make up some places at the start thanks to the KERS.” Giancarlo Fisichella

The race…

Tonio Liuzzi shined but a gearbox problem perturbed his afternoon. He was 6th before to give up, congrats to him for his good come back! Giancarlo Fisichella was disappointing on this weekend. His ninth place is bad and he has no excuse contrary to Luca Badoer.

“Finally, I am racing again and I gave it 100%. We didn't make any mistakes and everything was perfect until we were in a great position, but that's racing unfortunately. I had an unusual problem, the transmission started making a strange noise and then I lost drive and couldn't push. That's racing it was just a shame as we didn't have a reliability problem until now, but that's how it is. We won't give up though until the end of the season, we want to get lots of points and I am sure we will make it.” Tonio Liuzzi

"I am happy with the way things went in my first race weekend with Ferrari. At the start, I managed to make up a few places, then I had a difficult moment with Vettel, who closed the door on me going into Ascari in a way that was, let's say, very decisive. In the first part of the race, I felt comfortable on the softer tyre, while I struggled a bit more on the harder one, especially after the pit stop. It's a shame I only just missed out on a points finish, but this afternoon, I did the best I could. I am upset that I went off the track in FP3, which prevented me from being as well prepared as possible for qualifying: starting a bit further forward might have seen me finish in the top eight. Right from tomorrow morning, I will be concentrating totally on preparing for the race in Singapore, a track that I like a lot." Giancarlo Fisichella
