After Oceania, Asia, Qatar and an air of holidays, F1 finds Europe.. The arrival in Spain marks concretely the beginning of the championship. In this article, we’ll make a point on the teams before the Grand Prix. Then, we’ll evoke the testing deprived of April 14-17th in Barcelona without forgetting the presentation of the Catalan weekend...
The point before the first European meeting... Ferrari lands in Europe in dominating. Kimi Räikkönen holds the leadership and his team occupies the second rank. The “Red of Maranello” count two victories (Malaysia and Bahrain) and one doubled (Bahrain). BMW stays on three consecutive podium. A result which allows to take the command at the contructors. The German-Swiss team appears as the troublemaker of the top 3. McLaren is rather fickle. Lewis Hamilton won the Australian race but since he makes numerous inaccuracies… On the contrary, Heikki Kovalainen creates the surprise by its regularity, its composure and its attractive blow of steering wheel. The Finn signed two fifth position and he rose on the second step of the podium in Malaysia. Toyota seems to be the fourth strength of the line-up. Jarno Trulli realized two big exceptional GP to Sepang and to Sakhir. Williams disappoints a little of after the podium of Melbourne. It’s very erased… Red Bull doesn’t belong to the best of its shape but the RB4 is sharply more reliable than the previous one. Renault is invisible but numerous evolutions will be brought to R28 this weekend… Flavio Briatore and Fernando Alonso are confident for the continuation of the season. Honda and Force India enormously progressed. Scuderia Toro Rosso always has got the version B of monoplace 2007. The drivers are in big difficulty. However, the team of Faenza account two points at the championship thanks to a sensational Sebastien Bourdais. The STR-03 had to appear in Istanbul but the date could be pushed away... At Super Aguri, Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson seem to condemn for the last places (in the best case). The team of Leafield could disappear…
Testing in Barcelona from 14 to 17 April : As promised many news have made their appearances during the week. Renault, Honda, Ferrari, Toyota has made some aerodynamic changes to their monoplaces. These tests have been marked primarily by the engine cowling of the R28 strongly inspired by the Red Bull. The RA108, meanwhile, unveiled a wing forward with a concept similar to that used by BMW. The two appendices on the nose of the single-seater form a "V". On the Honda, wings remain straight while on the F1.08, they go upwards. Super Aguri was absent in Barcelona. Toro Rosso decided to begin testing from Wednesday. However, it was in track with the STR-03 on Tuesday for a lap of presentation. The first day was led by Felipe Massa in 1'18339. The Brazilian Honda outstripped Alexander Wurz and Mclaren of Pedro de la Rosa. The pole position will remain Brazilian on Tuesday. Rubens Barrichello sign on the best time in 1'18928. Like his compatriot pauliste, stopwatch was conducted in aero configuration "2008" combined with slick tires 2009. "Rubinho" is followed by VJM-01 of Giancarlo Fisichella and Felipe Massa of F2008. For the third day, Fernando Alonso makes the show for the public (1'18483). The evolution of the R28 don’t seem impressed Michael Schumacher, second. The German is sceptical about the possible advances of Renault. Adrian Sutil is in the top 3 while Sebastien Bourdais destroyed the STR-03 at the turn of the Campsa. Its entry in Istanbul is heavily compromised. The final session will be accompanied by rain. Toro Rosso and Force India leaved the night before. The eight remaining teams have little or no shot in the morning. Mark Webber set the fastest time (1'21953). He beats the two Finnish of the line-up. BMW has decided to stay an additional two days to prepare for the spanish race.
In April 25-27th, 2008: the championship begins now ! Three sessions of free tries to progress then the drivers can finally set out to conquer of pole. On this circuit 4,655 km long, they’ll have sixty six laps to win the podium. Which one of our twenty two pretenders will taste the champagne of the first step ? Felipe Massa is the favourite but the Brazilian will have to distrust his team-mate, McLaren and BMW… The GP is opened, who will know how to impress the King Juan Carlos 1st in Barcelona ?
